Centennial Fence Permits, Height Limits & Setbacks
Municipal requirements can affect a fence’s location, height, and approved materials. Current Centennial guidance indicates that a fence permit is required for every new fence. A permit is also required when replacing a fence if its height, location, or materials will change.
Fences up to 6 feet generally don’t require a completion inspection, while fences over 6 feet do. Residential fence height limits currently allow up to 4 feet in front yards and up to 8 feet in interior side, street side, and rear yards.
Centennial currently lists a minimum 0-foot fence setback. A fence must maintain at least 6 inches of separation from a sidewalk or 5 feet from the street when there isn’t a sidewalk. Weather-resistant wood is an approved residential fence material when it’s preservative-treated or painted, stained, and sealed.
Municipal standards can change, so property owners should confirm permit, height, inspection, and setback requirements with the City of Centennial before work begins. Our site assessment also addresses applicable HOA requirements, although each property owner’s association may set separate standards.
Wood Fence Maintenance in Centennial’s Climate
A well-maintained wood fence can last between 15 and 20 years in this climate. High-altitude UV exposure and repeated freeze-thaw cycles can wear on the surface, making staining or sealing every 1 to 2 years a practical maintenance schedule.
Routine maintenance also creates an opportunity to identify loose boards, damaged pickets, and wood fence gate issues before they worsen. Needs vary by wood species, finish, exposure, and condition, so owners should monitor the surface between staining or sealing applications.
