Quick answer: Stand Strong Fencing of Charlotte is owned and operated by Drew Russ, who lives in the Charlotte metro and runs the business here. After a decade leading teams at Amazon, Drew chose Charlotte to put down roots and build a family business — so when you hire us, you’re working with a local owner who’s personally accountable for your project, not an out-of-town operator.
A local owner, right here in Charlotte
Drew Russ has called Charlotte home for the past five years. He and his family moved here to be closer to family in the Southeast as they started a family of their own and put down roots. His path here was a winding one: born in Dayton, Ohio, with early years in Denver, he grew up on Maui, Hawaii, went to school in the Northeast, and spent much of his career in Silicon Valley, New York, and London before choosing Charlotte as the place to plant both his family and his business. Today he lives here, works here, and stands behind every fence his team builds in the community where he’s raising his kids.

The road to fencing
Before Stand Strong, Drew spent a decade at Amazon (Amazon Web Services), where he ran large business-development teams across the United States and then, for five years, across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, based in London. Before Amazon, he worked in venture capital in Palo Alto, California.
When he and his wife started their family, Drew decided he wanted to build something of his own — something his kids could watch grow up right alongside them. Fencing turned out to be the perfect fit. It let him pursue a real passion for construction and the trades — woodworking, metalworking, carpentry — in an industry where he saw a genuine gap in operational discipline and customer obsession. His plan was simple: take the customer-first culture and operational rigor he learned at Amazon and bring it to fencing.
Why a national brand, run locally
Drew chose to build on the Stand Strong brand for a specific reason: the depth of experience on the Stand Strong team, and the pride they take in enabling local owners to deliver a hyper-local product with the support of a national network. The brand brings proven systems, training, manufacturer relationships, and a warranty; Drew brings local ownership, local crews, and local inventory. You get the accountability of hiring your neighbor with the backing of a national brand. Here’s how that model works →
What “locally owned and operated” actually means here
- He’s accountable. A local owner is reachable and answerable for the work — not a call center three states away.
- Local crews. Your fence is built by dedicated crews, not a rotating cast of day-labor subs.
- Local inventory. Three fully stocked yards in the Charlotte metro and a local supply chain that keeps projects moving.
- Community. Drew is active across Charlotte — he serves on the Liturgical Commission at Christ Church on Providence Road, works closely with Habitat for Humanity, is involved with Myers Park Baseball (T-ball), and takes part in the parent communities at Charlotte Latin and First Presbyterian Preschool.
The bar we’re trying to raise
Drew started this business to raise the bar on what people expect from a fence company — in customer service, in how the business is run, and as a place where great people can build careers. That means finding great people, developing them into strong local leaders, and delivering a well-run service homeowners can count on.
“My goal is simple: treat every project with the customer obsession and operational discipline I learned over a decade at Amazon — clear communication, crews who take pride in their work, and a fence built right the first time. This is my family’s business, in the community we call home, and I stand behind every fence we build.” — Drew Russ, Owner
